Meet our Colleagues shaping our Next Chapter
We’re excited to welcome two new team members to the EES team, who will help strengthen our operations and support the next phase of growth across the Society.
Joining the team as Publications Manager, Meg Gundlach brings extensive experience in data management and Egyptological research. In this role, she will oversee the delivery of all EES publications, including our books and monographs, the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, and the Egyptian Archaeology magazine, helping streamline processes and ensure high-quality and accessible outputs. Additionally, Ziad Morsy joins us in the new role of Cairo Office Manager, and with his appointment, we will reopen our office at the British Council in Agouza, Cairo! His strong background in administration and organisational support will play a key role in improving day-to-day operations and enhancing our training and outreach programmes in Cairo.
Dr Meg Gundlach
Meg joined the EES as Publications Manager in 2026 to oversee the production of their invaluable contributions to the field of Egyptology. As Editor of Egyptian Archaeology and Managing Editor of the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, she draws on her extensive background in both excavation and museology to keep the EES at the forefront of current developments. She is also passionate about breaking down barriers to resources and is looking forward to reintroducing much of the EES’s historic works in an updated digitised format.
Meg received her PhD from Swansea University in 2013 on Typology and Artisanship in Twenty-fifth Dynasty Theban Shabtis. She also has an MA in Ancient Egyptian Culture from Swansea University and a BA in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has worked on excavations throughout Egypt and Sudan, primarily focused on documentation as a Small Finds Registrar. Prior to joining the EES, Meg was Collections Access Manager of The Egypt Centre (Swansea University). Meg is the Director and Founder of The Global Shabti Project, an online platform aimed to reunite the widely dispersed funerary figures for the use of research at all levels.
Dr Ziad Morsy
Ziad is a Maritime Archaeologist, specialising in Underwater cultural Heritage in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as an Ethnographer focusing on traditional Nile boats, Egyptian Traditional Riverine Tangible and Intangible Heritage Rescue Project (TradEGY, Honour Frost Foundation). He obtained his BA in Graeco-Roman Archaeology from Alexandria University, an MA in Maritime Archaeology from the same University, and then a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Southampton in 2015. Ziad is currently working on starting a number of Maritime Archaeological Projects in Egypt, including the Konosso Ancient Philae Sehel Channel Project (Honour Frost Foundation). Ziad is also a member of the Alexandria Govornorate Heritage Buildings committee and a number of underwater archaeological missions in Egypt and Libya, and for the past 18 years has participated in projects in Lebanon, Cyprus, Montenegro, Italy, Turkey, and the UK.
Ziad joined the team as Cairo Office Manager in 2026. He is responsible for the efficient and professional running of our Cairo Office at the British Council in Agouza, Cairo. Alongside his role at the EES, Ziad has occupied the role of Honour Frost Foundation Liaison Officer in Egypt since 2023.
These appointments reflect our continued commitment to investing in the people and processes that support the work of the Egypt Exploration Society. We look forward to the expertise and energy that both team members will bring to the organisation!
