Library

The EES Reference Library contains approximately 20,000 books, journals and pamphlets on Egyptology. As such it is one of the best libraries of its kind in the world.

It occupies the former home of Professor Ricardo Caminos (1915-1992, who resided there from 1980-1992); a professor of Egyptology at Brown University and the Society’s epigrapher before he retired in the early 1980s.

General Information

📢 Announcement!

The Ricardo Caminos Library is now closed to visitors until 2028 while we redevelop our London office. You can find out more about our ‘Building the Future’ campaign here.

While we realise this may be inconvenient, you can continue to engage with Egyptian cultural heritage with us through our various courses and lectures.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to welcoming library users back in 2028!

Ordinarily, all books in the Library are reference only and cannot be borrowed (see here for more information on the EES Lending Library). The library is available for current members. We recommend that you consult our online catalogue prior to your arrival. Non-members are able to use the library, but will be asked to pay £5 for a day pass on arrival at the office. We ask that all users contact the office ([email protected] or +44 (0)20 7242 1880) prior to arrival to ensure that there is adequate space available. Upon arrival, all users must read the Library User Agreement, which is available on-site.

Students with a valid ID can use the library free of charge, as can members of partnership organisations. Read more here.

Photocopying and scanning facilities are available for those wishing to copy chapters/articles etc., providing that such copying is in compliance with copyright legislation.
