A Dozen Discoveries
We are excited to launch a new year-long social media campaign called ‘A Dozen Discoveries’. Explore the history of the society’s collections on our social media platforms each month and go behind the scenes with a spotlight on 12 different collection highlights. From papyri to excavation records and unexpected artefacts, each month’s post will be an exciting opportunity to highlight various parts of our collections.
This campaign invites you to explore the stories of archival pieces and how they have shaped the EES. The society’s collections are living records of the history of Egyptology and the development of research. Many pieces have only been studied by a handful of researchers, but deserve to be brought to wider attention. By sharing these materials, we hope to showcase the diversity of our collections, stimulate new conversations about both well-known and unfamiliar archive materials, and rediscover the stories that continue to shape our understanding of ancient Egypt. See above for a preview of some of the highlights that can be found within the EES Collections, (please note: all these examples may not be featured in this campaign).
This campaign will kick off by highlighting our 1930’s replica of a head of Nefertiti (TA.CAST.1), and the original is now held in The Egyptian Museum in Cairo (JE 59286).
Be sure to check out our Instagram and Facebook pages every last Wednesday of the month, and follow along by searching the campaign's hashtag: #ADozenDiscoveries!
