2025: Digitising Doughty Mews

Help us to create a digital time capsule before our premises are redeveloped

The façade of 2-4 Doughty Mews, London, WC1N 2PG, which is the London premises of the Egypt Exploration Society.

The Building the Future project will transform our London premises into an accessible, innovative, and sustainable heritage centre. The Campaign goes from strength to strength, meaning our headquarters will soon become unrecognisable! For many, these walls are etched with the memories of all the Society has achieved since moving to Doughty Mews in 1968. To preserve a record of the premises before the redevelopment, we want to create a ‘digital time capsule’ to share with our supporters around the world, and with future generations. If funds permit, we will also create a digital model of the building, so that you can continue to walk its halls – albeit via computer screen.

As we look toward a new chapter in the EES’ history, we need your help to preserve a lasting record of what has come before, one which we can share with the world.

Help us reach our Fundraising milestones!

£1,000 could allow the Society to purchase filming equipment to provide greater video content online.

£7,500 could allow us to hire a videographer to capture the premises before they are transformed.

While £3,500 could allow us to work with a scanning agency to build a digital model of the premises for future generations to ‘walkthrough’ online.

We aim to raise £15,000 before 1st April 2026 to begin this work and share a record of our premises during our redevelopment project. Those giving £500 or more to the Appeal will be credited in the video and invited to an exclusive online premiere when the premises have closed for redevelopment.

Help us capture a snapshot of today for tomorrow, thank you.
