At once a goddess of sensuality, childbirth, the afterlife, distant lands, and more, Hathor was one of the most important and frequently attested deities of ancient Egypt. Since emerging onto Egypt’s national stage during the Old Kingdom, Hathor was a divinity of both cosmic and personal significance, who was closely involved in the lives of royals and non-royals alike. Inspired by the speaker’s current research, this talk uses materials from the Society’s archive to explore the history and significance of this culturally crucial goddess.
