Welcome our new Editorial Team

In 2025, the Egypt Exploration Society was delighted to appoint Dr Eva Lange-Athinodorou to the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology. Eva has been Assistant Professor at the Institute of Egyptology at the University of Würzburg since 2012 but has been Project Director at the site of Tell Basta (German-Egyptian archaeological joint mission at Bubastis) since 2008. As part of this role she also sits on the Society’s Delta Survey Management Committee and has been an active member of its research and publications programme over that time.
Eva will be supported in this role by Suzanne Arnold who took on the role of (interim) Managing Editor of the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology in June 2025. Suzanne has 25 years’ experience editing for publishers and multinational businesses and is an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. She holds the University of Manchester diploma in Egyptology and previously provided copy-editing services for the JEA in 2024.
Eva and Suzanne take on their roles from Dr Claudia Näser (Editor-in-Chief, University College London) and Dr Stephanie Boonstra (Managing Editor). Over their time the JEA rose up the Journal rankings to achieve it’s highest H-index rating to date, as well as launching the MESA Scheme to support authors from Egypt and Sudan. The Board are grateful to both for their hard work and wish Eva and Suzanne all the best in their new roles.
