We’re looking for volunteers

Are you interested in contributing to our Outreach and Engagement programme?

The Egypt Exploration Society is the UK’s leading charity and British International Research Institute supporting and promoting Egyptian cultural heritage since our founding in 1882. Today, we facilitate research projects around the world from our offices in London and Cairo, including access to our unique collections. The Society relies almost entirely on donations from our international membership and the wider public to fund our work and run an extensive educational programme of publications and training, as well as events to convey the results to interested audiences.

Our mission is to support and promote Egyptian cultural heritage, because we envisage a world where the cultural heritage of Egypt is preserved for posterity.

Our Outreach and Engagement volunteer roles will suit people who are passionate about sharing Egyptian and Sudanese cultural heritage with the general public. Tasks may include research on the EES collections, including our archive and library, composing communications or reworking content for social media or the website, personal projects to share the EES collections via our networks, working on Digital Exhibitions, and assisting our event programme from conception to advertising to supporting activities on the day.

Our current priority is to find volunteers with experience in event planning and execution to assist with our EES Fest, which you can learn more about here. As part of our Building the Future Campaign, the Egypt Exploration Society expects to close to the public from 1st April 2026 in order to decant our irreplaceable archive collections to off-site storage for the duration of the transformation. Once the building has been emptied, we plan to host a series of exciting events throughout June 2026 to celebrate the Society and test out new event formats. This is in anticipation of transforming our premises into a new centre for Egyptian cultural heritage, where people of all ages, needs, and backgrounds can engage with Egypt’s unique past. Help us make this festival a success!
