This year the Egypt Exploration Society is raising much needed funds to help support its charitable aims. We will therefore be auctioning a variety of rare, antique, and valuable books alongside more general tomes as well as bespoke Egyptological experiences on Wednesday 30 October, from 18:00 (UK Time).
Over 60 volumes will be auctioned off from our surplus and donation stock, in addition to a variety of experiences from curator tours of museum galleries across the UK to study day tickets with unlimited wine!
Take a look at the list of items below to see what’s available and read on to see how you can bid and help us raise funds for the EES.
Advance bidding will close at 13:00 on Wednesday 23 October 2024
(You can still bid on the night!)
How do I bid?
Well, that’s easy – you can bid on the night by turning up to enjoy the auction (with refreshments) at our London Office or attending virtually via Zoom. In-person attendance is limited, so please ensure you book your place now. There is no cost to attend the event, but any donations on the night are gratefully received and will go towards the Society. Or you can bid by email in advance.
Bidding by email in advance
After Wednesday 2 October, you will find below a downloadable spreadsheet detailing the lots available. New lists will be added at intervals before the auction itself so that you can follow the highest bids made in advance for each lot. YOU DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND THE AUCTION TO BID FOR LOTS – see note about postage and packing below.
If you would like to bid for a lot (or multiple lots) then please email [email protected] with BOOK AUCTION as the subject heading and include in the email:
- Your full name
- Your address
- Contact number (by bidding, you understand we may contact you about the auction)
- The lot number(s)
- Your (separate) bid for each lot (in GBP, £)
Available lots and advanced bids
When the next list is available here on the EES website, you can check to see if your bid (indicated by your initials) is leading. If not, then consider submitting a bid higher than that listed.
- First list (02/10/2024) – (AVAILABLE NOW) Initial bids must be received by 17:00 10 October 2024.
Collecting your items
If your bid is successful then we will send you an email detailing the total owed as well as any postage and packing costs in order to post your items to you. If you would prefer to collect the items from the EES London office (and didn’t already do so on the night) then please do this within two weeks of the auction. The EES London office will be open as usual from 10.30 to 16:30 (Lunch Closure 12:30-13:00), Mondays to Wednesdays, for the collection of items. The full cost must be paid before collection, and the full cost, including postage and packing, must be paid before we post items to you.
