EES-affiliate programme

The Egypt Exploration Society recognises the importance of networking between research projects to share expertise and experiences. The EES-affiliate programme is intended to support Egyptological research projects by providing this network as well as access to logistical services, funding, promotion, and publishing opportunities.

Affiliate status is open to any Egyptological research project and is not limited to those undertaking archaeological work. See ‘eligibility’ below.

Advantages of becoming an EES-Affiliate Project

The EES-affiliate programme creates a mutually beneficial environment for projects to network and support one another. As well as being able to tell funders that your project is EES-affiliated, you will also be able to access the following services:

  • Where required, the EES will provide Affiliates with logistical support for submitting Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA) paperwork and provide updates regarding the application at an exclusive rate of £500 per Project per application. This service is not available to non-affiliated projects.
    • This rate includes coordination of translation services (up to 15,000 words) for use in your MoTA application and an end-of-season report each year. If translation is not required, then contact us for a reduced rate.
    • If logistical support is not required (i.e. your Project has made arrangements for this), then no charge will be made.
  • Free use of the EES Cairo Office for meetings and liaison with the British Council for room bookings.
  • Ability to use the EES Cairo Office as a contact address for project-related deliveries.
  • Access to advice from the EES Cairo Office regarding car hire, room bookings, and other Egypt-based issues arising.
  • Ability to rent EES fieldwork equipment stored at the EES Cairo Office at a special rate.
  • Eligibility to apply for funding offered by the EES
  • Web space to promote your project on www.ees.ac.uk
  • Showcasing your project in EES publications and events

Eligibility

  • Research projects must be based in the UK or Egypt
  • Research project Directors should be a Full Member of the Egypt Exploration Society.
  • Research projects can cover Egyptian heritage of any period and focus on archaeological investigation/survey, education and engagement, conservation or preservation, or museum/archive study.
  • If you are in doubt, then contact us to discuss further: [email protected]

How does my research project become EES-affiliated?

Applying to become EES-affiliated is easy, just complete the application form below and email it to [email protected]. Once received, the Society’s Research Committee will consider your application at their next meeting, which are usually held in January and July each year. Representatives from the Research Committee may arrange an online discussion with you following their consideration of your application, this is just to get to know you and your project better. If your project is accepted as an EES-Affiliated Project, you will be asked to send a 100-word summary of your project with images for upload onto the EES website, guidance will be issued about what this should include and the audience it is aimed at.

Annual requirements

The affiliate relationship would be reviewed annually in conversation with representatives of the Research Committee before the end of each calendar year. This includes the submission of:

  • a detailed annual plan of the Project including archiving and publishing arrangements
  • confirmation of insurance and health and safety policies for the following year ensuring that all project members are covered appropriately. The EES does not hold liability for this.
  • the MoTA report following each season for archival purposes (not to be shared by EES)
  • any updated web content
