Fabregat_Coffins in Ancient Egypt: An Overview_closed coffin

This talk offers a general overview of coffins in ancient Egypt from their earliest appearances to the Third Intermediate Period, with a particular focus on developments during the New Kingdom and the early 21st Dynasty. It explores materials, texts, iconography, and workshop practices, as well as the circulation of models and artists. Drawing on examples from major funerary centers such as Thebes and Akhmim, the seminar combines traditional iconographic and textual analysis with interdisciplinary methods to show how coffins reflect long-term continuities and transformations in religious beliefs, social status, and artistic practices.
