As part of the Groundbreakers: Women in Archaeology series, join Dr Carl Graves (The Egypt Exploration Society) and Dr Anna Garnett (The Petrie Museum) in this informal reading of A Thousand Miles Up the Nile (1876) by Amelia Edwards, the Victorian writer, traveller and collector.
Delivered by representatives of the two organisations Amelia Edwards founded, this reading will consider her legacy today without shying away from important questions around the colonial roots of early British Egyptology and the impacts of artefact distribution on source communities. The talk will be preceded by a tour of the Petrie Museum that includes artefacts from Edwards' personal collection.
Led by the British International Research Institutes (BIRI) in partnership with the Petrie Museum of Egyptian and Sudanese Archaeology, the Groundbreakers: Women in Archaeology exhibition will be on display at the Petrie Museum throughout the Festival.
For all those interested in women's history, Egyptology, museums and archives.
This event is part of the Groundbreakers series.
