New funding opportunity

NEW for 2018: Patrons' Awards launched

As part of our ongoing commitment to support the next generation of scholars, we are delighted to announce a new annual award scheme for students needing to carry out part of their doctoral research in Egypt.  Two awards of £1,000 each will be made each year, to fund a one-month stay in Egypt. The awards have been made possible by the generous support of EES Patrons, who will also be involved in the process of selecting the recipients.

Applicants must be PhD/DPhil registered with a UK institution, undertaking research which requires or would benefit from time to be spent in Egypt.  They should not be resident in Egypt and should be members of the EES.

Applications should be received by 31st July 2018 for stays in Egypt before 30 September 2019. Successful applicants will be notified by 15th September 2018.

NEW: Students visiting Luxor

By agreement with Prof Pearce Paul Creasman (Director of the American Center of Oriental Research), it is a pleasure to announce that EES Patrons’ Award recipients working in or around Luxor are eligible to live without cost at Wilkinson House, a private villa on the West Bank. The house has 24-hour security, wifi, a/c, single-occupancy bedrooms, and dedicated research space. Providing that there is availability during your research period, Prof Creasman will be able to schedule your stay. If your application to the Patrons’ Awards is successful then please inform the Society if you wish to take advantage of this generous offer.
