The Egypt Exploration Society is delighted to be partnering with the University of Manchester to organise the fourth British Egyptology Congress (BEC) on 7th-9th September 2018. See the announcement here

Call for papers

BEC provides a platform for researchers to present their ongoing projects and discoveries to a broad audience of peers and the interested public through presentations or posters.

Presentations can focus on a wide range of topics including but not limited to:

  • Archaeology and current fieldwork
  • Language and texts
  • Art and craft
  • Trade and communication
  • Conservation
  • Medicine
  • Reception
  • The history of Egyptology and collecting
  • Museum or archive studies
  • Religion
  • Material culture

Papers can cover any period of Egyptian history as well as the impact of Egyptian heritage on the modern world and can be given by anyone involved in current research. Time will be available for presenting the posters in person.

Abstracts for a 20-minute presentation should be submitted by 19th March 2018 to [email protected]. They should not exceed 300 words. Presentations should be given in English and presenters should expect questions following their paper.

Posters should be A1 in size and oriented landscape. Responsibility to print the poster lies with the researcher. Abstracts not exceeding 250 words are to be submitted to [email protected] by 19th March 2018.

Abstracts will be considered by a panel made up of representatives from the organising institutions and confirmation will be mailed by 11th May 2018. Conference registration will open on 1st June 2018.

Presenters may be asked to submit papers for the proceedings of the conference in 2019.
