Using 50 auger cores and an Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) profile around at the ancient site of Naukratis this fieldwork has explored the location and navigability of the Canopic branch of the Nile in antiquity. So far, the Canopic river has been found to the west of the settlement and to be more navigable for seagoing trade than previously postulated.
