Martin Davies Martin Davies is a retired solicitor. A member of the Society since 1962, he has actively pursued a lifetime’s interest in Ancient Egypt. He served on the Society’s Committee for over twenty years and dealt with its affairs as honorary legal adviser. He acted similarly on the formation of the Sudan Archaeological Research Society. Martin is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and President of the Egypt Society of Bristol. He visits Egypt frequently and, as an accredited NADFAS lecturer, has given many talks on ancient Egypt, especially the history and rescue of the Nubian monuments, which he visited twice and photographed as far south as Semna in the early 1960s.
