1-2pm (UK) / 2-3pm (Egypt) | This lecture will be recorded, register to be sent a video link

This Tuesday Spotlight lecture within our wider theme of 'Visualising Egypt' explores the diversity and complexity of Egyptian art and how it has inspired contemporary artists.

Jewels of the Nile: Ancient Egyptian Treasures from the Worcester Art Museum puts the Museum's extensive collection of ancient Egyptian jewellery and minor arts on view, much of it for the first time. This collection, largely assembled by Kingsmill Marrs (d. 1912) and Laura Norcross Marrs (1845-1926) is remarkable for both its breadth and quality, thanks to the guidance of Howard Carter, whom they met on a trip to Egypt. The exhibit and catalog were co-curated by Peter Lacovara and Yvonne J. Markowitz and details the history of the collectors and their time and the development of ancient Egyptian ornament.
