Who we are Meet the team Board of Trustees An update from the Chair Dear members, A busy two months have passed since I wrote to you on 22nd August. Our fundraising working group, led by Val Billingham, met again in late September. We have created a new giving circle, the Amelia Edwards Circle, for donors of £2,000 a year, and following consultation with our patrons we have separated “patronage” from membership, meaning that from next year patrons will be asked to give £500 in addition to their membership subscription, not including it. This simplifies our membership structure going forward. We are working on our “case for support”, to be included in all our fundraising literature and which will appear shortly on our new website. We have in the past benefitted from many generous legacies and we intend to create a new “legators’ circle” for those who tell us that they have remembered us in their will. We asked members at the AGM for suggestions for an appropriate name for this group; if you have any ideas, please email them to [email protected]. The working group was joined by Keith Raffan for an outreach session; many thanks to Keith for his enthusiasm and support. Cedric and Carl have a good programme of talks and lectures over the next twelve months and we intend to use those as a platform for promoting the Society. Members of the finance committee spent two afternoons interviewing four firms of estate agents, to act on the sale of Doughty Mews and to help us find new premises. Thanks to Anandh for hosting these. We have since instructed Knight Frank, and are putting together the promotional “package” to be used in advertising the site. We expect to launch the sale process after the Christmas break. Our Annual General Meeting was held on 7th October at UCL’s Institute of Child Health, following a very successful study day on Howard Carter and his Circle. Congratulations to all the staff, especially Carl, for their organisation. Over 100 members attended the AGM and all the resolutions in the Notice of Meeting, including the reappointment of Val Billingham, Anandh Owen, Liugi Prada, Alice Stevenson and Alexandra Villing, were duly passed. In addition, I was able to announce that Sue Preston, a qualified accountant with up-to-date experience in charity accounts and a former Egyptology student at Birkbeck, would join us as a trustee, and Treasurer, in November. That completes our complement of Trustees, and we are looking forward to working with Sue. Below are the slides for the 2016-17 Treasurer's Report: Following the formal meeting, we held a very useful discussion with members about their ideas for outreach and fundraising, including co-operation with local societies and finding specific projects to fund, and we will be working on these. In addition, we proposed to create a network of “local ambassadors”, members who volunteer to promote the society in their area.
